NYC, my Pre-op appt, and DF happenings
Current Mood: Ready and willing
Currently Playing: Dwarf Fortress
Yesterday I took the train to New York for my FFS preop appointment. I appreciate not having to drive, but it's still a pretty taxing amount of travel.
Whenever I'm in the city it makes me really miss being able to get around without a car. However I was forced to buy an OMNI card...
While waiting for my appointment I snacked on a blueberry muffin and chocolate croissant at Union Square park. Accross from me was this beautiful praying mantis!
This was the last place I expected to see one. I'm used to watching the antics of the pigeons, starlings and sparrows, so this came as a nice surprise.
My appointment went well, and I learned that I now weigh over 190 pounds lol... I'm tall so it hardly looks that way, and thanks to estrogen the fat falls in all the right places.
Anyway, it's insane, but my surgery is less than 3 weeks away. I can't tell if I'm ready, but I know I want this.
After my appointment I still had to kill some time before my train. I went to Kinokuniya and looked around at all the cute anime stuff. I was tempted to buy the MTG manga,
Destroy All Humans, They Can't be Regenerated, but decided against it. That's $15 better spent elsewhere, plus I have too many books and too little space. It makes me happy seeing how popular and easily accessible anime is nowadays, for better or worse. Growing up anime was a male-dominated subculture in the US. Now it's common to see more girls than boys looking through manga and art books. I'd really like to go to an anime convention and see how the vibes have changed. Plus I'm hot and can drink now, so there's no way I wouldn't have a good time.
Dwarf Fortress!!!!! yeah!!!
I'm getting really into DF again.. I've been casually playing it on and off for a decade and I've never gottan all that far, but with the Steam release and thits QOL changes I find myself falling under a trance. The addition of taverns is really nice. At first I really hated the mouse controls but I've quickly grown to love them. I'll never stop using the vanilla ASCII graphics though, you lose too much charm with anything else. I've got the basic structure for the fort set up, next I'm going to work on setting up the military. In the old versions this was always a pain in the dick, but I'm sure it's gotten easier. Hopefully I'll get far enough to lose this time.
